VIDEO: Copyright. Google Trends 2004-2018
I would like to present a 10 minute talk within Copyright Reform, summarizing research my colleagues Aram Sinnreich, Margaret Clifford and Saif Shahin did on US Google Trends patterns between 2004-2018, demonstrating public curiosity/support for various copyright reform initiatives, including Creative Commons, open source, open access, A2K, and fair use. While we found a decline in more idealistic transformative visions of copyright reform, we also saw a rise in interest in pragmatic reforms that provide breathing room within strict copyright. Our research provides activists and advocates with useful information about directions in public sentiment and therefore strategies for mobilizing support. We hope to present jointly, but with a primary host, and expect to be able to present slides.
