VIDEO: Pandemic-Proof Libraries: Lessons from COVID-19
This forward-looking session will focus on the different angles related to copyright reform that will need to be addressed to ensure that libraries can function properly in a post-COVID world, as well as future pandemics and other disruptive events. The session will examine how COVID-19 has dramatized tensions and accelerated debate on the rules – or lack of rules – around the acquisition and use of copyright-protected material by libraries for education, research, and cultural participation. It will review initial responses by governments and stakeholders, and will identify a number of key areas that need to be addressed, as well as considering how the issues might be framed in the light of the pandemic. Contributions and experiences from different countries and regions are also welcome.
